Draft King is a an all-girl rock band from Japan that consists of five members: hiddy (vocals), erica (vocals), mao (guitar), nohana (bass), and shiho (drums). Both nohana and shiho are former members of the band Stereopony, which disbanded on 27 December 2012. Prior to Draft King, mao also toured with Stereopony as support guitarist.
Draft King performed at Stereopony's STEREOPONY Lovers X'mas Live Final on 24 December 2012 as the opening act for the show.

It seems a little overkill to have two vocalists...does one take lead vocals and the other do mostly backup singing and rhythm guitar or something?
Yeah, hiddy played rhythm guitar for the second song. But for the first song she and erica shared the vocals. mao, nohana, and shiho were killing it as usual. The only difference was that there were no back-up vocals from them at all.

To be honest, I wasn't aware if Evanpony was a one time thing, my understanding at the time was Aimi was going to do her own thing and Nohana and Shiho were going to continue performing with Evan. Perhaps I misunderstood his intentions.
We now know that Nohana and Shiho will be continuing on with Draft King, which makes Evanpony look like a one time thing. I'm glad Mao is performing full time with a band and hopefully I'll come to like Higgy and Erica as well (although Erica will blindly favorite this on Twitter)
Now all we have to wait on is Aimi.
AIMI will make her solo debut when the time comes.

Yeah. For some reason, i hope she would like start solo singing, like YUI?
Yes, she most likely will. If she forms a new band too, then that would mean there definitely was some internal conflict between AIMI and NOHANA and SHIHO. My guess is that she will do something similar to miwa. She will start off with an acoustic guitar and then switch to an electric guitar after a few singles.

Ooh. Internal conflict? I really wonder what happened... No prizes for guessing though.

My understanding is that Aimi intended to go solo after the disbanding, so she'll probably go miwa or YUI. I think she might play guitar for YUI until she's ready to debut on her own. The question is what we'll get out of Aimi. Slow songs that she does so well, more covers like she did at the Xmas live, or cover all bases like miwa?
It makes sense to tell the journey of Stereopony and what we know of the story of MIXBOX, but the only reason I know about Draft King is because Nohana and Shiho are in it, and the only reason I know Stereopony is no longer performing together is because I'm a member here. Until Draft King or Aimi eventually gets promotion in anime, only VGDers and Stereopony lovers and YUI-lovers and SCANDAL Heaveners will know about them, or that they used to be Stereopony members. Having Draft King open for Stereopony is to introduce them, show that Nohana and Shiho are still making music, and to get fans of Stepo to stick with the two of them, root for Mao because she's now a full member, and get to know Erica and Higgy as Erica favorites all their Twitter posts.
I didn't know about Stereopony until I heard their contributions to anime and decided to follow them full time, so unless you're a Stepo fan, theoretically until Draft King shows up in some popular anime people won't start to follow them and learn their family tree.
But it does make sense to document Stepo from a historical standpoint. Just have the Veritaserum ready when we need to find out about MIXBOX.

That's not going to happen since YUI announced she would be on a hiatus after the release of Green Garden Pop and Orange Garden Pop.

Yup! So all the Stereopony information we have saved up until now is still relevant because new fans of Draft King and AIMI will want to check out Stereopony music and other stuff. They will be so glad that we have English translations for all these things available.

Not rejecting them right off the bat, but does anyone know any other examples of new Japanese bands coming out of other bands and how well they turned out?

Looks like we'll be on the watch for a while. There's certainly a lot going on right now.
As with anything new, I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt. I myself haven't heard DK yet, so its still up in the air. But having Nohana, Shiho and Mao definitely gives them a head start. I wish Aimi the best of luck, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her. I'll just be glad to see her come out once again.
And on a side note, I'm quite happy there's no other news regarding EVANPONY. Was never really into that whole wagon.
Cheers guys, do share info like always

Just remembered one.. Maiko from ZONE formed MARIA.. I guess they had modest success but eventually quit. I hope Draft King can do better.
*EDIT* Anyone catch this yet?

Not rejecting them right off the bat, but does anyone know any other examples of new Japanese bands coming out of other bands and how well they turned out? After ELLEGARDEN split up all the members went into successful bands, the main two being the HIATUS and Nothing's Carved In Stone, both of which are doing really well. From my own favourites, after FISHMANS split up due to the lead vocalist's death the drummer Kin-ichi joined Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and they did even better. Hidaka from BEAT CRUSADERS seems to be doing well with solo gigs and with FED MUSIC. After LUNA SEA split in 2000 pretty much all of them had modest careers. The members of SUPERCAR had decent solo careers/collabs/bands/production roles. And of course the members of Yellow Magic Orchestra have all done very well for themselves outside the YMO outfit.
I'm personally hoping that YUI and AIMI make a band/duo together. YUI said she was leaving music behind for a while to try different things (I thought she was going to reveal what those things were but she never did) so maybe being in a band might be tempting?
