First of all I don't intend to make a flame thread I'm just pointing out my observations.
I've been searching generasia for artist that I like to see how well they are doing in terms of sales. Recently I'm curious with female bands like Scandal, Stereopony, Chatmonchy, Gacharic Spin, Eu phoria so I checked all their single and albums to see the corresponding rankings and sales.
I arrived at the conclusion that they are not getting much love that they deserve, I just can't see why an all female band so talented and hot is struggling to enter the top ten spot for the first week of release. Among the more active bands (Chatmonchy, Scandal, Stereopony) Chatmonchy has the more solid fan based as evident in their last 3 release Hyoujou, Awa Come, and Last Love Letter with an Oricon ranking of 5, 6, 7. While for Scandal R-Girl's Rock!, Nanka Buttobase, Pride ranked 9,3,7. For Stereopony Over Drive, Over the Border, Chiisa na Mahou ranked 28,12,23. I thought with the popularity of K-On attention will be shifted to female bands but girl and boy groups still dominate the charts.
A reason maybe they are not getting the same promotional effort from their record companies as compared to the resources dedicated to Girl and Boy groups...
Or maybe the genre itself (all female band) is in a decline after Zone.
Anyone can share they're thoughts on why the female bands are not as Popular, Marketable, and Loved as girl and boy groups?
*Special mention Negoto... they have only 2 release so far a mini album ranked at 23rd and a single at 11th place for the first week.

Who knows... maybe they'll figure out something and become super successful like Linkin Park. Those guys broke boundaries and made good music lol. They're supposed to be known all over the world, so I hope you guys know who I'm talking about...

Oricon charts and sales do not matter that much. Well yes if a single/album sells great, but taken into account several other factors such as downloading, ripping, not enough money to purchase a CD also lowers the sales. Someone could like one song on a particular album or single, but do not like the others as much so not wanting to waste money to purchase the whole thing, downloading would be a better option or wait until another better album is released that sparks more interest for that person to buy.
I'm not saying to download illegally or not support Stereopony though in the music industry there are lots of pros and cons. Even if artists do not make enough from their sales, they hold live concerts and events along with selling merchandise in order to profit back. That is how the majority of artists make money anyways while their record labels get the most money from producing a CD. Stereopony, Scandal, Chatmonchy, and other bands out there are doing fine as long as they are happy is all that matters.

Other than their second album OVER THE BORDER, STEREOPONY failed to break the top 20 in the Oricon Charts in the last two years... even their third album peaked at only 33. I could argue that More! More!! More!!! is STEREOPONY's best album (better than OTB at least), so I'm wondering why it didn't get so high.
Do the singles really matter that much on how well an album sells? HgS and OTB clearly have the better singles and left MMM with only "Chiisana Mahou" and two acoustic singles. But the quality of the other songs on MMM was much better than the other albums' in my opinion.
What do you guys think?

It's not only about the music, how an album sells depends more on the fans - I think I talked about it before. We can all agree that Stepo makes amazing music, but we, the fans can determine how it ranks. Just take Idol groups for instance, their fans ARE DEDICATED and pretty much live for the group - so they go out and buy multiple copies at times. I think Stepo just doesn't have enough dedicated fans since they're sticking to the Band style instead of Idol.

For some reason, I think I'd end up disliking them if they were #1 every time.
